Shardul Thakur Confident of England Triumph

Shardul Thakur Eyes Another Historic Test Series Win in England
Leeds, June 17 – Indian fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has expressed confidence in Team India’s potential to script another memorable Test series win in England, recalling the 2021 series as one of the highlights of his career. Speaking ahead of India’s upcoming Test assignment in England, Thakur reminisced about the closely contested 2021 series, which was spread over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think it was one of the fondest memories for me — one of the best Test series that I have been part of,” Shardul said, recalling India’s victories at Lord’s and The Oval. “We won a couple of games. The first one also we could have won, but unfortunately, it rained on the last day and we couldn’t chase down the total. Then we came back for the fifth Test next year with the series level.”
Thakur, known for his impactful performances in key overseas games, highlighted the unique challenges of playing in English conditions. “It’s very exciting to play in this part of the world where you face different challenges — the weather, for one. Sometimes it’s cloudy, sometimes it’s bright and sunny. As a player, you need to adjust your game, whether you’re batting or bowling.”
The Mumbai-born cricketer also commended the inclusion of new talent in the Indian Test squad, emphasizing the importance of youthful energy. “It’s good to have that fresh energy in the team. New youngsters coming up, new talents — it’s always exciting.”
On facing England under their aggressive new ‘Bazball’ strategy, Thakur appeared upbeat. “Now that the England team is also playing a different kind of cricket, we’d like to surprise them as well. We’re here to put up a show,” he said.
Looking ahead to the broader goal, Thakur added, “It’s always great to win a series away from home. If we could achieve this feat, it would be massive for the entire nation, I feel.”
With the stage set for a high-stakes battle in one of Test cricket’s most iconic rivalries, Thakur’s optimism echoes the hunger and confidence within the Indian camp as they gear up to challenge England on their home turf once again.
