Shaktikanta Das hails India’s policy reforms

India at cusp of historic journey due to reforms: Shaktikanta Das
Amid growing global trade uncertainties and the looming threat of tariffs, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Shaktikanta Das on Friday said India stands at the threshold of a historic economic journey, propelled by strong policy reforms and a clear vision for self-reliance.
Delivering the inaugural Bibek Debroy Memorial Lecture, Das said India has “wind in its sails” owing to the series of structural reforms and policy measures rolled out by the government in recent years. He noted that these reforms have strengthened the country’s economic fundamentals and enhanced its resilience in a challenging global environment.
“At a time when the consensus that once powered globalisation has frayed and multilateral cooperation has become increasingly difficult, India has embraced Atmanirbhar Bharat as the overarching principle guiding its policies,” Das said.
He подчеркed that self-reliance does not imply isolation but rather building domestic capacities while remaining globally competitive. According to Das, India’s approach has enabled it to navigate external shocks more effectively and position itself as a reliable growth engine in the world economy.
The lecture was held in memory of economist Bibek Debroy, with policymakers, economists and academics in attendance.
