SC Reserves Verdict on Telangana Defection Case

SC Reserves Verdict on Telangana MLA Disqualification Row
The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on pleas alleging delays by the Telangana Assembly Speaker in ruling on disqualification petitions against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs who defected to the Congress.
A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih reserved its decision after hearing arguments from all parties involved.
One of the petitions challenges a Telangana High Court order from November 2024 concerning the disqualification pleas of three BRS MLAs, while another petition pertains to the remaining seven legislators who switched parties.
The issue of delays in deciding disqualification matters has been a recurring concern, with petitioners arguing that such hold-ups undermine the anti-defection law. The Supreme Court’s forthcoming verdict is expected to have significant political and legal implications for Telangana’s legislative landscape.
