RSP’s Hot Strip Mill-2 Sets New Production Record in January

Bhubaneswar: The Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) achieved a new milestone in January 2025, recording its highest-ever monthly production in terms of slab weight and coil weight.

According to RSP sources, the mill rolled 253,680 tonnes of slabs to produce 247,493 tonnes of coils, surpassing its previous best of 239,320 tonnes of slabs and 232,934 tonnes of coils set in October 2024.

On the dispatch front, HSM-2 registered its highest-ever monthly dispatch of 26,487 tonnes of HR plates, with a cumulative total of 214,835 tonnes of HR coils and HR plates dispatched during the month.

In addition, the Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) set a new record, achieving a shearing tonnage of 30,011 tonnes in coil and 28,399 tonnes in pile tonnage, exceeding the previous best of 26,466 tonnes in coil and 26,438 tonnes in pile tonnage recorded in August 2024.

RSP Director-in-Charge Alok Verma, accompanied by senior officials, visited HSM-2 to commend the workforce for their outstanding achievement. He lauded the coordination, teamwork, and dedication of all supporting departments, encouraging them to aim for even higher targets.

He emphasized that such milestones significantly contribute to the plant’s profitability and overall growth.

Key departments instrumental in this achievement included Production Planning & Control, Traffic & Raw Material, Computer & IT, Instrumentation & Automation, Central Mechanical & Electrical, Research & Control Laboratory, Roll Shop, Energy Management, and Material Management, among others.
