Rajnath Singh Vows Befitting Reply to Pahalgam Terror Attack, Highlights India’s Defence Resolve

In a strong message against terrorism, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on Wednesday assured the nation that the perpetrators of the cowardly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, will receive a befitting response. Speaking during a memorial lecture on the Marshal of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Arjan Singh in New Delhi, he reaffirmed India’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and declared that the Government is committed to taking all necessary steps in this regard.

“Every Indian is united. We can never be intimidated by such terror activities. Those behind the Pahalgam attack, including conspirators operating from behind the scenes, will soon face the consequences,” said Shri Rajnath Singh. He expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized that such heinous acts will not go unanswered.

Referring to the broader geopolitical situation, the Defence Minister warned those across the border to learn from history, stressing that nations crumble more from their own misdeeds than enemy actions. He highlighted the government’s determination to fortify national security through a robust and self-reliant defence ecosystem.

Shri Rajnath Singh paid glowing tributes to the leadership of Marshal Arjan Singh and emphasized the evolution of the IAF into one of the world’s most formidable air forces. “The journey of the IAF reflects aspiration, inspiration, and transformation. It is a cornerstone of our national security,” he noted.

The Minister detailed ongoing efforts to equip the armed forces with cutting-edge technology and indigenous defence systems. He cited key achievements like the LCA Tejas, ALH Dhruv, LUH Prachand, Akash, and BrahMos systems as examples of India’s growing defence capabilities.

He also underscored the government’s focus on developing aero-engines and fifth-generation fighter aircraft, along with enhanced involvement of the private sector, start-ups, and MSMEs in defence innovation. “The future of warfare demands high-tech preparedness, and we are ensuring that India is not only ready but leads the way,” he added.

Highlighting global shifts, Shri Singh said the Indo-Pacific is now the strategic epicenter of the world, and India is ready to confront the complex challenges arising from a volatile international environment and rapid technological advancements such as AI, hypersonic weapons, and cyber warfare.

Top defence officials, including Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, were in attendance at the event, along with several senior civil and military dignitaries.
