Rajnath Singh unveils Defence Forces Vision 2047

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on Tuesday released the landmark document ‘Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military’ at an event in South Block, New Delhi. The vision, prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, provides a comprehensive blueprint to transform India’s military into a modern, integrated, and technologically advanced force in line with the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The document outlines strategic reforms, capability enhancements, and organizational changes aimed at making the Defence Forces multi-domain, agile, and fully capable of deterring adversaries, responding across the spectrum of conflict, and safeguarding India’s expanding strategic interests.

A key pillar of the vision is jointness and synergy among the Services, promoting greater coordination in planning, operations, and capability development. It also emphasizes innovation, advanced technologies, and modern training frameworks to prepare the armed forces for future warfare challenges.

The roadmap highlights Aatmanirbharta in defence, encouraging the adoption of indigenous technologies and strengthening domestic defence manufacturing to enhance operational readiness and support national growth.

Structured across short-term, mid-term, and long-term timelines, the vision prioritizes critical capability development, institutional reforms, and strategic partnerships to build a globally respected, combat-ready military by the centenary of India’s independence.

Chiefs of the three Services—including General Anil Chauhan, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh—along with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, were present at the release.

The document calls for a whole-of-nation approach, integrating military strength with diplomatic, technological, and economic power to ensure national security and position India as a global military leader by 2047.
