Pritam Elated as Zohran Mamdani Ends Victory Speech with ‘Dhoom Machale’

Music composer Pritam expressed delight after Zohran Mamdani, New York’s mayor-elect, concluded his victory speech with the hit Bollywood track “Dhoom Machale”, calling it a “perfect fit” for the celebratory moment.

Mamdani, a 34-year-old Democrat of Indian descent and son of acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair and scholar Mahmood Mamdani, defeated independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in Tuesday’s election.

The viral clip of the celebration shows “Dhoom Machale,” from the 2004 film Dhoom, playing as supporters cheered Mamdani’s win.

Reacting to the video, Pritam said he was thrilled to see his song used in such a joyous global moment. The composer recalled first meeting Mira Nair when she was developing her film The Bengali Detective, adding that he has admired the family’s creative and cultural contributions.

Fans online have hailed Mamdani’s choice of song as a nod to his Indian roots and a symbol of cross-cultural pride.
