Prime Minister’s Departure Statement Ahead of G7 Apulia Summit Visit

New Delhi: At the invitation of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to the Apulia region in Italy to participate in the G7 Outreach Summit on June 14, 2024. This visit marks his first international engagement in his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his pleasure at making Italy the destination for this significant visit, recalling his previous visit to Italy for the G20 Summit in 2021. He highlighted the importance of Prime Minister Meloni’s two visits to India last year, which have significantly contributed to the momentum and depth of the bilateral agenda between India and Italy. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening the India-Italy strategic partnership and enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and the Mediterranean regions.

The discussions at the Outreach session will focus on critical global issues such as artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the Summit provides a valuable opportunity to synergize the outcomes of the G20 Summit, held under India’s Presidency, with the forthcoming G7 Summit, and to deliberate on issues crucial for the Global South.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi expressed his anticipation of engaging with other world leaders participating in the Summit, aiming to foster global cooperation and address shared challenges.

This visit underscores India’s active engagement in global multilateral forums and its commitment to contributing to discussions on pivotal international issues.
