Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu to Felicitate National Panchayat Awards Winners on 11th December
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has announced the winners of the prestigious National Panchayat Awards for the year 2022–2023, with the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, set to present the awards on 11th December 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The awards aim to recognize the exceptional contributions of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in fostering inclusive and sustainable development at the grassroots level.
This year, 45 Panchayats have been selected under various categories, including the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar, Carbon Neutral Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar, and Panchayat Kshamta Nirmaan Sarvottam Sansthan Puraskar. These categories highlight key areas such as poverty reduction, child welfare, health, water sufficiency, sanitation, infrastructure, social justice, women empowerment, and climate sustainability.
A total of 1.94 lakh Gram Panchayats participated in the competition, with 42% of the award-winning Panchayats led by women. The selection process involved a rigorous appraisal of Panchayats’ performance across thematic areas aligned with the Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs). This meticulous process, involving committees at the Block to National level, reflects the Ministry’s commitment to promoting transparency and encouraging healthy competition among rural local bodies.
The awards not only celebrate the remarkable work undertaken by these institutions but also aim to inspire other Panchayats to adopt these best practices for the benefit of their communities. The National Panchayat Awards exemplify the transformative role of Panchayats in building resilient and empowered rural areas.
