President Droupadi Murmu Marks Two Years in Office with New Initiatives

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu celebrated her second year in office on July 25, 2024, with a series of significant initiatives and a return to her teaching roots.

In a symbolic gesture, President Murmu engaged with Class 9 students of Dr Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya, offering lessons on nature conservation and climate change. Reflecting on her past as a teacher, she shared personal anecdotes about caring for plants and animals, inspiring the students who eagerly participated in the discussion.

The President’s second-year celebrations included several key events:

  • Inauguration of the redeveloped Shiva Temple.
  • A visit to the Pranab Mukherjee Public Library, where she interacted with students and explored digitized versions of rare books from the Rashtrapati Bhavan Library.
  • Opening of a Skill India Centre with Minister of State (IC) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary.
  • Inauguration of a Cricket Pavilion and Synthetic and Grass Tennis Courts at the Dr Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya Sports Ground.
  • Launch of digital initiatives including e-Upahaar, the RB app, and an e-book summarizing her presidency’s past year.

In her remarks, President Murmu praised the digitization efforts at Rashtrapati Bhavan, emphasizing their role in enhancing convenience, transparency, and accountability. She highlighted the importance of contributing to the development of all societal segments, particularly the marginalized, and expressed satisfaction with the increased public engagement with Rashtrapati Bhavan over the past two years.

The President also commended ongoing efforts to promote reading and sports within the President’s Estate, reflecting her commitment to fostering a culture of education and athletic excellence.
