PM Modi Lauds Odisha’s Transformative Governance

PM Modi Hails Odisha’s Progress, Lauds BJP Government’s First Year of Governance

Bhubaneswar, June 20 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised the BJP-led Odisha government for living up to public expectations and establishing a model of good governance. Speaking at a grand event marking the first anniversary of the BJP government in the state, the Prime Minister said the day symbolized a celebration of public service, trust, and development.

“This anniversary is not just about completing one year in office. It marks the rise of good governance committed to the welfare of every Odia,” said Modi. He commended Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and his team for their dedication, noting that their work has infused new energy into Odisha’s development journey.

Calling Odisha “a shining star of India’s heritage,” the Prime Minister emphasized that the state has successfully balanced the twin goals of preserving its cultural legacy and driving forward development. He said Odisha’s role has become even more significant as development and heritage emerge as the cornerstones of India’s future.

Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹18,600 crore across diverse sectors such as drinking water, irrigation, healthcare, rural roads, national highways, agriculture infrastructure, and a new railway line. He also flagged off new train services, including the first rail link to Boudh district, and launched 100 electric buses under the CRUT initiative to promote sustainable urban transport.

Reinforcing his “Purvoday” vision for Eastern India’s development, Modi said Odisha is fast emerging as a petrochemical and industrial hub. He highlighted key projects like the mega dual-feed cracker and downstream unit in Paradip, crude oil storage at Chandikhole, and an LNG terminal in Gopalpur. These projects, he said, will power growth in petroleum, textiles, and plastics industries and promote a vibrant SME ecosystem.

“Nearly ₹1.5 lakh crore has been invested in Odisha’s petroleum and petrochemical sectors in recent years,” he noted, positioning Odisha at the forefront of India’s industrial transformation.

The Prime Minister also released the Odisha Vision 2036 document to mark 100 years of the state’s formation and the Vision 2047 roadmap for India’s centenary of independence. Additionally, he launched the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’, aimed at preserving and celebrating the birthplaces of Odisha’s great personalities through museums, public spaces, and cultural tourism initiatives.

In a gesture of appreciation, PM Modi felicitated several ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women who have achieved financial independence through self-help initiatives. Lauding their achievements, he described them as symbols of empowerment and the new face of rural progress.

“This is the era of Purvoday, and Odisha will lead from the front,” Modi concluded, reaffirming the government’s commitment to driving transformative development in the eastern region.
