In a major step towards transforming Odisha into a global digital hub, the state government’s Electronics and IT department has initiated plans to set up a Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Puri.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the detailed project report (DPR), which is being jointly prepared by RailTel and Deloitte. The CLS is expected to significantly enhance Odisha’s digital infrastructure, enabling high-speed internet connectivity and improving communication networks across the region.

According to an official release, the project aims to attract investments in data centers, draw top-tier technology firms, and create employment opportunities in the state. By establishing the CLS in Puri, Odisha seeks to position itself as a key player in the global digital economy, reducing dependency on landing stations in other states.

Experts believe that this move will not only strengthen Odisha’s digital backbone but also pave the way for future advancements in IT and telecommunications. The government is expected to finalize the DPR soon and move forward with the implementation of this strategic initiative.
