Odisha to Establish Academic Centre and Language Lab to Promote Tribal Languages and Culture

The Odisha government, through its Academy of Tribal Languages and Culture (ATLC), has announced plans to establish an academic centre and language laboratory dedicated to the development and preservation of tribal languages and culture.

Nityananda Gond, Minister of ST and SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department, has directed the initiative as part of the department’s 100-day plan. This strategic move aims to bolster the cultural and linguistic heritage of Odisha’s diverse tribal communities, an official statement released on Friday said.

The new centre and language laboratory will be situated at Gothapatna, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, near the proposed Adivasi Bhawan. The establishment will serve as a multipurpose venue, accommodating meetings, conferences, shows, and exhibitions showcasing tribal art and culture.

“The academic centre and language laboratory are envisioned to be pivotal in preserving and promoting the rich linguistic diversity and cultural heritage of our tribal communities,” Minister Gond stated. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering and uplifting the tribal population of Odisha.”

The proposed centre will facilitate research, documentation, and the teaching of various tribal languages. It aims to create a robust platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, ensuring that the unique traditions and languages of Odisha’s tribes are preserved for future generations.

With this initiative, the Odisha government continues to demonstrate its dedication to the welfare and development of the state’s tribal communities, ensuring their languages and cultures receive the recognition and support they deserve.
