Odisha Set to Amend Universities Act for Greater Autonomy

The Odisha government has announced plans to amend the Odisha Universities Act, 1989, aimed at enhancing the autonomy of state universities. This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday.

The amendments, which are expected to streamline governance and strengthen the operational framework of universities, will be introduced in the upcoming state legislative assembly. Along with this, changes to provisions in the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR), 2015 were also approved.

The proposed amendments are expected to empower universities, enabling them to make more independent academic and administrative decisions, thus improving the educational ecosystem in the state. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja confirmed that the bills related to these amendments will be placed before the Odisha Assembly for approval.
