Odisha Power Utility Issues 1,229 Notices for Unauthorised Constructions Near Power Lines
In a move aimed at enhancing public safety and preventing accidents, the TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the state government, has issued 1,229 notices to individuals and establishments for allegedly constructing buildings near overhead electricity distribution lines in eight southern districts of Odisha.
The notices are part of an ongoing effort to ensure compliance with safety regulations around power lines. According to an official statement, the highest number of notices—655—were issued in Ganjam district, followed by 160 in Koraput, 131 in Malkangiri, 104 in Gajapati, 83 in Nabarangpur, 55 in Rayagada, and 38 in Boudh.
The utility company is focused on eliminating potential hazards posed by unauthorized constructions, which could risk lives and disrupt power supply. The action is in line with ongoing efforts to improve safety standards in the region’s power distribution network.
