Odisha Minister urges sustainable planned urban-growth

Odisha Minister Calls for Planned Urban Growth, Greener and Cleaner Cities
Bhubaneswar, Sep 10 — Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Tuesday underscored the need for planned urban development to tackle the challenges of rapid urbanization while ensuring greener, cleaner, and healthier living spaces.
Chairing a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials of the department, Dr Mohapatra directed that planned initiatives must be taken up on priority and completed within the stipulated timeframe. He stressed timely execution, accountability, and visible results on the ground.
Highlighting manpower shortages, the Minister instructed that every Urban Local Body (ULB) should have at least one junior or assistant engineer to ensure proper monitoring of projects and efficient delivery of basic services.
“Citizens’ welfare is the government’s foremost priority,” Dr Mohapatra said, urging officials to guarantee uninterrupted access to essential urban services while promoting sustainable and inclusive city growth.
He also called for robust service delivery mechanisms, innovative approaches, and close coordination with ULBs to enhance the quality of life in Odisha’s cities and towns.
Reiterating the state’s vision, Dr Mohapatra said urban growth must remain people-centric and aligned with Odisha’s broader development goals.
