Odisha Governor Raghubar Das emphasized the pivotal role of journalism in guiding society and safeguarding citizens’ rights while addressing media professionals at a felicitation event organized by the Press Club of Jamshedpur on its 18th foundation day on Sunday.

“Journalism is not limited to the dissemination of news; it holds the responsibility of creating awareness about rights and ushering in constructive societal changes,” said Das, who is also the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Das described journalists as “strong sentinels of society” and urged them to perform their duties fearlessly, highlighting the profession’s potential to influence societal progress positively.

The event, held in the Kolhan division, recognized the contributions of journalists and honored the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Das lauded the efforts of the Press Club of Jamshedpur for fostering an environment of excellence in journalism and acknowledged the sacrifices made by journalists in upholding the principles of truth and justice.
