Odisha Drives Eastern-India’s Industrial Growth Surge

Odisha Aims to Drive Eastern India’s Industrial Growth under Purvodaya Vision: CM Majhi
Kolkata, Jan 17 : Odisha is poised to play a central role in shaping the next phase of industrial growth in Eastern India under the Purvodaya vision, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday. Speaking at the Odisha Investors’ Meet Roadshow at ITC Sonar, Kolkata, he highlighted the state’s transformation from a resource-based economy to a hub for value-added and advanced manufacturing, emphasizing speed, scale, and sustainability as key drivers.
CM Majhi stressed that industrial development in the region would be collaborative rather than competitive, with states leveraging each other’s strengths to build a robust eastern industrial corridor.
During the Kolkata roadshow, 27 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with an investment potential of Rs. 81,864 crore, expected to generate over 63,000 jobs. Additionally, 19 investment intent proposals worth Rs. 18,453 crore could create another 27,591 jobs. The Chief Minister, however, noted that the true measure of success lies not just in signing MoUs, but in their effective implementation on the ground.
Inviting industry leaders to partner with Odisha, CM Majhi highlighted the state’s financial strength, economic stability, and strategic coastline, with ports at Paradip, Dhamra, and Gopalpur facilitating port-led industrialisation for eastern and central India.
The roadshow featured 130 high-level interactions and four sectoral roundtables focusing on Hosiery, Apparel Accessories & Technical Textiles; Metal Ancillary, Downstream & Engineering Goods; Plastic, Chemical, Packaging & Recycling; and Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices & Biotech. CXO-level representatives from leading companies participated in these discussions, underscoring Odisha’s commitment to strategic and emerging sectors.
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted Odisha’s advantages in the Purvodaya initiative, including strong infrastructure, port-led logistics, stable policies, fast project execution, focus on new-age sectors, and workforce skill development.
Following the successful Kolkata engagement, Odisha is gearing up for Enterprise Odisha on January 27–28 in Rourkela, which will showcase the state’s industrial capabilities, MSME strengths, startup ecosystem, and investment-ready infrastructure. The event aims to convert investment interest into actionable projects, reinforcing Odisha’s vision of building a diversified, future-ready industrial economy.
