Maintaining Communal Harmony, Ensuring Women’s Safety Top Priorities: Odisha DGP
Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Thursday reaffirmed that maintaining communal harmony and ensuring the safety of women and children remain the top priorities of the state police.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 70th State Police Duty Meet-2025 at the Reserve Police Ground in Cuttack, Khurania said the Odisha Police is committed to upholding peace, public trust, and professional integrity while constantly upgrading its skills and technology to meet modern challenges.
“The focus of our policing efforts is to safeguard every citizen, especially women and children, and to preserve the spirit of communal harmony that defines our state,” the DGP said.
The four-day event, which will continue till October 19, aims to assess and enhance the professional competencies of police personnel through various competitive events. This year’s meet has drawn participation from 282 competitors, along with 43 K9 warriors (police dogs) and their 43 handlers representing 34 police districts across Odisha.
The competitions include events in scientific investigation, fingerprinting, photography, videography, and police dog handling—areas critical to modern policing.
Senior police officials, dignitaries, and family members of the participants were present at the opening ceremony, which also featured demonstrations by the K9 units showcasing their tracking and crime detection capabilities.
Khurania lauded the dedication of police personnel and urged them to continue serving with discipline and empathy while embracing innovation and teamwork to strengthen law enforcement across the state.
