Odisha CM sees GST reforms boosting economy

Proposed GST Reforms to Boost Trade, Commerce in India: Odisha CM
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said that the proposed reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework will bring significant transformation in trade and commerce across the country.
Speaking at the valedictory session of a seminar on “Viksit Odisha, 2036 – Odisha on Growth Path” organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Laghu Udyog Bharati, Majhi stressed that rationalisation of GST rates will stimulate consumption and accelerate economic activities.
“If GST rates are reduced, consumption will increase. Higher consumption will lead to more manufacturing, which in turn will enhance employment opportunities,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that a strong trade and industrial ecosystem, backed by tax reforms, would not only benefit large-scale industries but also empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which play a crucial role in job creation and inclusive growth.
The seminar witnessed participation from policymakers, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs, who deliberated on Odisha’s roadmap for development by 2036, coinciding with the centenary year of its formation as a separate state.
Majhi reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting reforms that strengthen both state and national economic growth.
