Odisha CM Reopens Dubuna Iron Mine

Bhubaneswar, May 16: In a significant move to boost mineral production and economic growth, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday inaugurated the resumption of operations at the Dubuna iron ore mine located in Barbil tehsil of Keonjhar district.

The mine, owned by the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), had remained non-operational for several years after initially being opened decades ago. Its revival marks a key step in enhancing the state’s mining sector and ensuring optimal utilization of its rich mineral resources.

Speaking at the event, CM Majhi emphasized the importance of value addition in the mining industry and urged the OMC to explore ways to diversify its operations. He encouraged the corporation to not only extract raw materials but also focus on processing and value-enhancing activities to maximize economic benefits for the state.

“The resumption of the Dubuna mine will not only contribute to the state’s revenue but also create employment opportunities and support local development,” the Chief Minister said.

The reopening of the Dubuna mine is expected to strengthen Odisha’s position as a leading producer of iron ore and support industries dependent on the mineral both within and outside the state.
