Odisha CM Launches Enhanced Pension Scheme for Elderly and Disabled Persons
Bhubaneswar, Jan 15 : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled an enhanced pension scheme to provide greater financial support to the state’s elderly and disabled residents. The scheme, launched on Wednesday in Keonjhar, will benefit 4,17,496 people across the state.
Under the new initiative, senior citizens aged 80 years and above, along with individuals having 80% or more disability, will now receive a monthly pension of ₹3,500. This marks a significant increase of ₹2,300 from the previous pension amount of ₹1,200.
Speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the importance of respecting and caring for vulnerable members of society. “A society that respects and admires its senior citizens and differently-abled individuals is an ideal society,” he said, describing senior citizens as “the temples of our faith and trust.”
The Chief Minister assured that all beneficiaries under the National Social Assistance Program and the Madhubabu Pension Scheme would receive the enhanced pension amount.
Highlighting his government’s achievements in the past seven months, Majhi noted several welfare initiatives, including the recent signing of an agreement to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in Odisha. This scheme aims to provide better healthcare facilities to the state’s underprivileged population.
Additionally, Majhi announced plans to establish a mega steel plant in Keonjhar. The agreement for the project is expected to be finalized during the upcoming Utkarsh Odisha program in Bhubaneswar later this month.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fostering industrial development across all districts of Odisha, ensuring progress and prosperity for the state’s residents.
