Odisha CM Hails People-Oriented Union Budget

Odisha CM Majhi Hails Union Budget 2025-26 as People-Oriented and Employment-Generating
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has lauded the Union Budget for the financial year 2025-26, describing it as people-oriented, welfare-driven, and focused on development and employment generation. Reacting to the budget, Majhi stated that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had presented a historic budget, designed to give a fresh boost to the nation’s progress and development.
Majhi emphasized that the budget was comprehensive, catering to all sections of society. It brings good news for farmers, daily wage earners, the middle class, employees, women, youth, and students. He noted that the Union Government has successfully addressed the hopes and aspirations of middle-class families.
“The Prime Minister had stated that the budget would bring blessings from Goddess Lakshmi upon the poor and the middle class, and today’s provisions have truly delivered on that promise,” Majhi remarked.
Highlighting key provisions, Majhi pointed out the introduction of significant tax relief for income taxpayers. Individuals earning Rs.12 lakh per year (Rs.1 lakh per month) will now be exempt from paying income tax, saving at least Rs.80,000 annually, which will contribute to further strengthening the Indian economy.
The budget also introduces the ‘Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ in 100 districts, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and increasing farmers’ income. Additionally, the loan limit under the Modified Interest Subsidy Scheme has been raised from Rs.3 lakh to Rs.5 lakh through the Kisan Credit Card, ensuring better access to financial resources for farmers.
A record capital investment of Rs.15.5 lakh crore has been allocated in the budget to generate new jobs. Majhi also highlighted the increase in funding for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with the allocation rising from Rs.32,426 crore to Rs.54,832 crore. This increased allocation will benefit Odisha, enabling the state to provide a record number of houses to the poor next year.
On the infrastructure front, Majhi praised the record allocation of Rs.67,000 crore for the Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana, which will support the Odisha government’s goal of providing clean drinking water to all villages within the next two years.
Furthermore, the state government will benefit from a rise in its share of central taxes, which will increase to Rs.64,408 crore in 2025-26, compared to Rs.55,232 crore in 2024-25, enabling the state to fund various welfare programs.
Majhi concluded by affirming that Odisha continues to be a key focus for the Prime Minister and is poised to achieve new milestones in development.
