India Wins Back-to-Back U19 World Cup

India Clinches Back-to-Back U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Titles with Dominant Win Over South Africa

Kuala Lumpur, February 2, 2025 — India showcased a scintillating all-round performance to defeat South Africa by 9 wickets and claim the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 title, clinching back-to-back championships in the tournament.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first but faced relentless pressure from India’s bowlers. Parunika Sisodia made an early breakthrough, dismissing opener Simone Lourens for a duck, and Shabnam followed with the vital wicket of the dangerous Jemma Botha. By the end of the 4th over, South Africa found themselves at a precarious 20/2.

The pressure mounted as Aayushi Sharma removed Diara Ramlakan, leaving South Africa at 29/3 at the end of the powerplay. A brief resistance between captain Kayla Reyneke and Karabo Meso was short-lived, with both batters falling in consecutive overs. Mieke van Voorst and Fay Cowling added 30 runs—the largest partnership of the match—before they too were dismissed.

India’s bowlers continued to dominate, bowling out South Africa for just 82 runs. Aayushi Shukla was the standout bowler, picking up 2/9, including two maidens, while Trisha Gongadi took three wickets. Parunika Sisodia, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Shabnam each added to the total with one or two wickets.

In response, India got off to a blazing start, scoring 18 without loss in the first two overs. Despite a brief moment of hope for South Africa, where Kayla Reyneke removed Kamalini G, the breakthrough was too little too late. Trisha Gongadi, in outstanding form, scored an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls, including eight fours, while Sanika Chalke contributed a valuable 26 off 22 balls.

Together, Gongadi and Chalke guided India to a commanding nine-wicket victory, securing the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 title with ease. The win marks India’s second consecutive triumph, highlighting the team’s consistency and dominance at the U19 level.
