Odisha CM Approves 2,000 New Posts to Bolster Traffic Management and Road Safety
Bhubaneswar, April 17 : In a major step towards enhancing road safety and streamlining traffic management, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the creation of 2,000 new posts in the state’s traffic police department. This strategic move aims to reinforce the state’s traffic infrastructure both at the state and district levels.
According to official sources, a total of 70 posts will be created at the state-level traffic setup, while a significant 1,930 posts will be added at the district level. The Chief Minister emphasized that the decision is part of a broader initiative to improve road safety standards and reduce traffic-related incidents across the state.
The newly created state-level posts include key leadership and operational positions:
- 1 Director General of Police (DGP)/Inspector General of Police (IGP)
- 1 Deputy Inspector General (DIG)
- 2 Superintendents of Police (SPs)
- 4 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs)
- 6 Inspectors
- Additional operational support from 6 more Inspectors, 8 Sub-Inspectors (SIs), 8 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), 22 Constables, and 10 Drivers
At the district level, the expansion includes:
- 5 DSPs
- 41 Inspectors
- 83 SIs
- 83 ASIs
- 310 Havildars
- 1,408 Constables
Chief Minister Majhi expressed confidence that the augmentation of manpower in the traffic wing will significantly improve enforcement, monitoring, and public awareness, contributing to a safer and more efficient transportation system.
“This step will not only strengthen Odisha’s traffic system but also help us emerge as a model state in road safety,” the Chief Minister said.
The move has been widely welcomed by traffic officials and public safety advocates, who view it as a much-needed boost to the state’s efforts in tackling increasing vehicular movement and ensuring the safety of commuters.
