Odisha Marks ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ with Rath Yatra

Odisha celebrated ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ on Friday, coinciding with the conclusion of Lord Jagannath’s annual Rath Yatra and the ‘Niladri Bije’ (temple entry rituals). The day highlights the cultural significance of the sweet dish ‘Rasagola,’ which is traditionally offered to Lord Jagannath’s consort, Maa Laxmi.
The observance of ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ stems from a tradition where Lord Jagannath offers Rasagola to appease Maa Laxmi, who, according to myth, was displeased for not being included in the Rath Yatra. Bhaskar Mishra, a researcher in Shree Jagannath Culture, explained that the offering of Rasagola is meant to soothe her anger and restore harmony.
The celebration underscores the deep-rooted cultural practices of Odisha and the enduring significance of Rasagola in the local heritage and religious traditions.
