The Odisha Legislative Assembly on Tuesday announced the formation of a committee to address demands for a salary hike and enhanced pensions for former legislators, following widespread support across party lines.

During Zero Hour, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik raised the issue, emphasizing the challenges faced by former MLAs due to rising costs of essential items and medical expenses. Her proposal received backing from members of the Congress and BJP, highlighting the unanimity among lawmakers on the issue.

The committee will study the demands and provide recommendations to the state government for consideration.
