Odisha Govt Appoints Professors, Specialists to Boost Medical Education
Bhubaneswar, Sep 18 :The Odisha Government has made a major push to strengthen medical education and healthcare services by appointing 91 Assistant Professors across 23 broad speciality disciplines and 7 Assistant Professors in 6 superspeciality disciplines in state medical colleges.
Official sources said the state’s medical education system has received a significant boost with these appointments, alongside the operationalisation of two new government medical colleges — Government Medical College & Hospital, Phulbani (Kandhamal district) and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital, Talcher (Angul district) — in 2025.
With their addition, the number of government medical colleges in Odisha has risen from 12 to 14. In 2024, Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College & Hospital, Jajpur, had also become functional. Two postgraduate (PG) institutes in the state have further been strengthened with the new recruitments.
In addition, 38 Professor posts and 27 Associate Professor posts have been filled through departmental promotion across different medical colleges.
At the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack, clinical services and education have been upgraded with the appointment of 10 superspecialist Assistant Professors in Surgical Oncology, Gynaecological Oncology, Head & Neck Surgery, Medical Oncology, and Uro-Oncology. One Professor and two Associate Professors have also been promoted at the institute.
The government said more specialists and superspecialists will be appointed in the coming months to further strengthen medical colleges and hospitals across the state.
