Odisha announces Ambedkar Bhavan in Bhubaneswar

Odisha to build Ambedkar Bhavan in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, April 14 : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced that an Ambedkar Bhavan will soon be constructed at Kharavel Nagar in Bhubaneswar. He directed the General Administration Department to begin preparations for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project.
The announcement was made while addressing the state-level celebrations marking the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar, widely revered as Baba Saheb. Majhi described Ambedkar as not just an individual, but a powerful ideology that continues to inspire the fight for equality and justice.
“The greatest tribute to Baba Saheb is to build a society rooted in equality. His life’s work stands as a testament to his relentless struggle for education and social justice,” the Chief Minister said.
Highlighting the significance of inclusive development, Majhi stated that the progress of Dalits, tribals, and backward communities stems directly from Ambedkar’s vision. He stressed that Odisha’s overall prosperity depends on uplifting its most marginalised sections.
The Chief Minister noted that the state government has been implementing several central schemes aimed at safeguarding the rights and welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He added that over Rs 6,649 crore has been allocated in the 2026–27 budget for their development, with a special focus on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
Emphasising social welfare, Majhi said the budget prioritises education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities for SC and ST communities. He also termed the introduction of new reservation provisions in engineering and medical education as a historic step, reiterating that talent transcends caste and religion when given equal opportunities.
On food security, he highlighted the success of the ‘Mukhyamantri Annapurna’ scheme, which has benefited millions across the state. He called for collective efforts to build a society based on equality and justice.
Majhi also remarked that while Ambedkar’s contributions were once overlooked, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked to restore due recognition to his legacy by developing five key sites associated with his life as the “Panchteerth.”
During the programme, the Chief Minister felicitated winners of various state-level competitions organised by the Information and Public Relations Department.
