No major impact of Cyclone Montha in Odisha: CM Majhi

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said that Odisha escaped major damage from Cyclone Montha, which made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast around 7 pm, bringing much-needed relief to the state.

Reviewing the post-landfall situation at the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) control room in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said that only minor incidents of landslides and uprooted trees were reported from a few regions.

“Barring some stray cases of landslide and tree felling, there has been no major incident even after three hours of landfall. The damages reported so far are much less than our anticipation,” the Chief Minister told reporters.

He expressed gratitude to Lord Jagannath, saying the state was spared from a major calamity despite the cyclone’s proximity.

Authorities had taken extensive precautionary measures, including evacuation of vulnerable populations, deployment of disaster response teams, and suspension of coastal activities. These steps, officials said, helped minimise risks and ensure preparedness.

The state government continues to maintain high alert in southern districts, with restoration teams on standby to clear blocked roads and restore essential services wherever disruptions occurred.
