India-Japan Bilateral Trade May Reach USD 50 Billion by 2030: Assocham
Tokyo, Aug 26: India’s bilateral trade with Japan is expected to reach USD 50 billion by 2030, driven by growing economic complementarities, stronger business engagement and increasing investment ties between the two countries, industry body Assocham said on Wednesday.
The projection was made in the Assocham report on India-Japan Bilateral Relations, which was released during a roundtable on startups in Tokyo in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
According to the report, India-Japan bilateral trade stood at USD 27.47 billion in 2025-26. Assocham said recent exchanges of high-level delegations, along with developments in bilateral trade and expected investment announcements, are likely to provide further momentum to economic ties.
“India’s trade relations with Japan are significantly expanding, with recent exchanges of high-level delegations,” Assocham said.
The industry body noted that growing economic complementarities between India and Japan are creating opportunities for deeper cooperation across sectors. Stronger business-to-business engagement and investments are also expected to contribute to the expansion of bilateral trade in the coming years.
Assocham President Nirmal Kumar Minda is accompanying the Indian ministers during the visit to Japan. The startup roundtable in Tokyo provided a platform for discussions on entrepreneurship, innovation and opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
India and Japan have been strengthening their economic partnership through cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, technology and emerging sectors. The projected increase in bilateral trade reflects the growing potential for businesses from both countries to expand their presence in each other’s markets.
With continued high-level engagement and new investment opportunities, India-Japan economic relations are expected to gain further momentum, supporting the target of taking bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030.
