India’s industrial production grew by 8 per cent year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from the 7.4 per cent growth recorded in July, according to government data released on Monday.
The latest growth in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) was largely supported by strong performance in the manufacturing sector, along with robust growth in electricity and gas supply.
According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), the manufacturing sector recorded a 9 per cent growth in August, while the electricity and gas supply sector registered a strong 12.3 per cent expansion.
The August data marks the fifth monthly IIP reading under the new series. The improvement in industrial output indicates continued momentum in key sectors of the economy, with manufacturing making a significant contribution to overall industrial growth.
