Mohan Majhi: From Village Sarpanch to Odisha CM
Mohan Charan Majhi, BJP’s tribal leader, has been appointed as the 15th Chief Minister of Odisha, marking a remarkable journey from a village sarpanch to the state’s highest office. Hailing from Raikala village in the tribal-dominated Keonjhar district, Majhi, aged 52, began his political career nearly three decades ago.
Son of a watchman, Majhi’s political ascent saw him elected to the Odisha Assembly four times – in 2000, 2004, 2019, and most recently in 2024. He served as the village head from 1997 to 2000 and later became the secretary of BJP’s Adivasi Morcha, showcasing his commitment to tribal issues and grassroots leadership.
A graduate by education, Majhi’s journey underscores his deep-rooted connection with the people of Keonjhar and his dedicated service to the BJP, culminating in his selection as Chief Minister. His elevation represents BJP’s focus on empowering regional leaders and promoting inclusive governance in Odisha.
