MoD, BDL Ink ₹2,095 Crore Missile Deal

MoD, BDL Sign ₹2,095.70 Crore Deal for INVAR Missiles to Boost T-90 Tank Lethality

In a major step towards defence self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract worth ₹2,095.70 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of INVAR Anti-Tank Missiles.

The agreement, signed under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, aims to enhance the firepower and lethality of the T-90 main battle tanks, which form the backbone of the Indian Army’s armoured regiments. The signing ceremony took place at South Block, New Delhi, in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, along with senior MoD officials and BDL representatives.

The INVAR missile system, a sophisticated laser-guided anti-tank weapon, boasts high hit accuracy and is designed to destroy heavily armoured targets, thereby strengthening India’s combat readiness. The addition of these missiles will significantly augment the operational capabilities of the Indian Army’s mechanised forces.

According to the Ministry, the procurement not only fulfills the Army’s operational requirements but also underscores the government’s focus on indigenisation of defence manufacturing. The project leverages the expertise of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) like BDL while promoting the development of niche technologies by Indian industries.

The deal reaffirms the government’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production, marking another milestone in India’s journey towards achieving full Aatmanirbharta in defence capabilities.
