Mobile App Predicts Depression Risk in Pregnant Women

New research suggests that a mobile app could effectively predict the likelihood of depression developing in pregnant women during later stages of pregnancy.
Through surveys conducted in the first trimester, researchers identified key risk factors such as sleep quality and food insecurity that contribute to the onset of depression. Lead author Tamar Krishnamurti, from the University of Pittsburgh, US, emphasized that a brief questionnaire administered via the app could provide early indications of potential depression.
“This approach allows us to assess individuals with a small set of questions and predict the likelihood of depression,” Krishnamurti explained. If validated, this innovation could significantly enhance prenatal care by enabling timely interventions to support maternal mental health.
