Manipur divers target 2026 Asian Games

Manipur Divers Ningthoujam and Sairem Eye 2026 Asian Games After Historic Medal
Indian divers Willson Singh Ningthoujam and Indiver Sairem from Manipur, who recently won India’s first-ever medal at the Asian Aquatics Championships, have set their sights on the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Ningthoujam, a havildar in the Indian Army, and Sairem clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 10m synchronised platform event at the championships held in Ahmedabad earlier this month. Remarkably, Sairem competed despite a thumb injury, showcasing resilience and determination.
Both athletes—Ningthoujam, 23, and Sairem, 15—have returned home to Manipur and are intensively training for the upcoming Asian Games, aiming to bring further glory to the country in diving.
Their historic achievement has been widely celebrated, inspiring a new generation of Indian divers and highlighting the growing prominence of sports talent from Manipur, a state known for producing elite athletes in multiple disciplines.
“We are focused on our training and hope to deliver our best performance at the Asian Games next year,” Ningthoujam said, reflecting their commitment to continuing India’s rise in international diving competitions.
With their eyes set on the 2026 Games, the young duo hopes to build on their historic medal and make India a strong contender in Asian diving events.
