Manipal Hospitals Hosts Kidney Health Forum on World Kidney Day
In an effort to raise awareness about kidney health, Manipal Hospital Yeshwanthpur and Manipal Hospital Malleshwaram jointly hosted a Comprehensive Kidney Health Forum on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2025. The event featured two insightful panel discussions, engaging both senior citizens and young adults, emphasizing the importance of early detection, lifestyle changes, and advanced medical interventions in maintaining kidney health.
Panel 1: Nephrologists Discuss Chronic Kidney Disease and Prevention
Leading nephrologists, Dr. G K Prakash and Dr. Santosh S, highlighted the alarming rise in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which affects approximately 10% of Indian adults. Dr. Prakash pointed out that obesity, poor diet, and sedentary lifestyles contribute significantly to CKD. He stated, “Obesity is the mother of all diseases, including kidney disease. Addressing this issue early, especially among children, is crucial.”
Dr. Santosh S explained the differences between acute and chronic kidney failure, stressing that early intervention in diabetic kidney disease can slow progression. He remarked, “Regular blood sugar monitoring plays a crucial role in preventing kidney complications.”
Panel 2: Advances in Kidney Stone and Cancer Treatments
The second panel, featuring Dr. V Mohan Kumar and Dr. Vishnu Prasad, delved into advancements in kidney stone and cancer treatments. Dr. Kumar spoke about laser surgery techniques, which have revolutionized kidney stone treatment by offering minimally invasive procedures, faster recovery, and fewer complications.
Dr. Vishnu Prasad emphasized the importance of early detection in kidney cancer, warning that symptoms often go unnoticed in the initial stages. He noted, “Unexplained weight loss, blood in urine, and persistent back pain are warning signs that should not be ignored.” He also highlighted the growing role of robotic-assisted surgeries, which provide greater precision and improved patient outcomes.
Raising Awareness for a Healthier Future
The Kidney Health Forum reinforced the need for proactive kidney care, lifestyle modifications, and early medical intervention. Manipal Hospitals’ ongoing awareness initiatives continue to make a meaningful impact on community health, encouraging regular check-ups and preventive measures to combat kidney-related ailments.
