Lakshya Sen Falls Short, Misses Bronze Medal
Lakshya Sen’s Bronze Medal Hopes Slip Away After Loss to Lee Zii Jia
PARIS: Lakshya Sen’s bid for an Olympic medal on his debut fell short after he lost to Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the bronze playoff on Monday. The 22-year-old from Almora, who had taken an initial lead, ultimately fell in three games, with Lee securing the bronze medal with scores of 13-21, 21-16, 21-11.
Sen’s defeat marks a disappointing moment for Indian badminton, as it will be the first time in 12 years that the country will return from the Olympics without a badminton medal. Despite a strong performance throughout the tournament, Sen was unable to maintain his advantage, allowing Lee to rally and clinch the victory.
