Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life Opens Nationwide

Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life’ Hits Theatres to Thunderous Response in Tamil Nadu

Superstar Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated 234th film, Thug Life, opened in cinemas nationwide on Thursday, sparking celebratory scenes across Tamil Nadu. The film marks a grand reunion between Haasan and legendary director Mani Ratnam, 38 years after their iconic collaboration in Nayakan.

Excitement was palpable outside theatres in Chennai and other parts of the state, with fans thronging venues for the first-day, first-show experience. At Rohini Theatre in Chennai, massive cutouts, drums, and flower showers added to the festive atmosphere, as die-hard admirers gathered as early as dawn.

The film, a multilingual release, debuted in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam. However, it faced a setback in Karnataka, where screenings were halted following a recent controversy over Haasan’s remarks about the Kannada language. Despite the Karnataka glitch, Thug Life opened to packed houses in other southern states and metropolitan cities.

The 70-year-old actor, still known for his bold performances and charismatic screen presence, plays a complex role in the film that has already sparked buzz among critics and fans alike. Mani Ratnam’s direction and A.R. Rahman’s music have also been praised in early reactions.

The film is expected to have a strong weekend at the box office, especially in Tamil Nadu, where Kamal Haasan continues to command a legendary status. Fan clubs have already planned celebratory events and screenings throughout the week.

Thug Life is seen as a milestone in Haasan’s illustrious career, and the buzz around the film suggests it may emerge as one of the year’s biggest blockbusters.
