Kalinga Stadium Set for Global Showdown

Over 200 Athletes from 19 Nations to Compete in World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar is all set to host the prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze on August 10, drawing over 200 athletes from 19 countries for a high-octane international sporting spectacle.

This marks the first time that Odisha is hosting the Continental Tour Bronze event, an elite-level athletics competition recognized by World Athletics. A total of 20 events will be conducted during the one-day meet, bringing together top-tier athletes in track and field disciplines.

Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, after reviewing the ongoing preparations at the venue, expressed pride over the state’s opportunity to organize the event. “Hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze in Odisha for the first time is a matter of immense pride. We are fully prepared to organize it successfully,” he stated.

The review meeting addressed critical aspects such as infrastructure readiness, athlete accommodations, crowd management, and deployment of police personnel for security. The Minister emphasized that world-class arrangements are being made to ensure a smooth experience for both participants and spectators.

“Our plans cover every detail — from athlete safety and medical facilities to hospitality and security. Odisha is steadily emerging as a global sporting destination,” Suraj added.

He also voiced confidence in Odisha’s homegrown athletes, saying, “I believe athletes from Odisha will once again make the state proud with their performances at this global event.”

The event is expected to further cement Odisha’s reputation as a leading hub for international sports in India, following its successful hosting of major tournaments like the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup and the Indian Women’s League.
