JSW-POSCO to build steel plant in Keonjhar

JSW-POSCO to Set Up 6 MTPA Steel Plant in Odisha’s Keonjhar: CM

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday announced that South Korean steel giant POSCO, in collaboration with JSW Group, will establish a six-million-tonne-per-annum (MTPA) greenfield steel project in Keonjhar district.

Welcoming POSCO’s return to Odisha, Majhi said the project marks a major milestone in the state’s industrial growth, particularly in his home district of Keonjhar, known for its rich mineral reserves.

“The CEO of JSW Group met me today and confirmed that the new plant will be set up in Keonjhar. This joint venture with POSCO will significantly boost Odisha’s economy and generate large-scale employment opportunities for our youth,” Majhi stated.

POSCO’s re-entry into Odisha is being seen as a significant development, nearly a decade after its earlier plan for a mega steel plant in Jagatsinghpur district was shelved due to land acquisition hurdles and protests.

The proposed 6 MTPA facility in Keonjhar is expected to strengthen Odisha’s position as India’s leading steel-producing state while aligning with the government’s focus on value addition to its vast mineral resources.

Officials said the state government will extend full support to the joint venture in facilitating approvals, land, and infrastructure requirements to ensure smooth execution of the project.
