Indian Coast Guard Collaborates with AIIMS for Super-Specialist Medical Camp in Lakshadweep

In an exemplary display of humanitarian aid and medical outreach, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) joined hands with AIIMS New Delhi and the Union Territory (UT) administration to organize a groundbreaking medical camp in the remote islands of Kavaratti and Androth in UT Lakshadweep. Held from the 29th to the 30th of April, 2024, the camp served as a beacon of hope for approximately 1,500 citizens on each island, offering not only free medication but also expert consultations.

Under the stewardship of Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, Delhi, a dedicated team of 15 specialist doctors descended upon the islands, spanning crucial fields such as Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurology, Dermatology, Orthopedics, and beyond. The primary focus of the medical camp lay in providing super-specialist medical coverage to these far-flung regions, thereby bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility for the local populace.

Furthermore, the medical team took proactive steps to bolster the existing medical infrastructure by delivering basic life support (BLS) lectures to local medical professionals. This initiative aimed not only to provide immediate relief but also to empower the local healthcare ecosystem for sustainable growth and development.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by luminaries such as Dr. M Srinivas, Inspector General Bhisham Sharma (Commander Coast Guard Region – West), Surgeon Commodore Diviya Gautam, VSM (Principal Director – Medical Services, CGHQ), and Shri Avanish Kumar, IAS (Health Secretary, UT administration), underscored the collaborative spirit and collective commitment toward enhancing healthcare accessibility in the region.

In a statement, Dr. M Srinivas emphasized the importance of such collaborative efforts in reaching the unreached and ensuring holistic healthcare for all. He lauded the Indian Coast Guard for its unwavering support and expressed gratitude to the local administration for their cooperation.

The success of this medical camp not only exemplifies the spirit of compassion and service but also highlights the transformative impact that collective action can have on marginalized communities. As the sun sets on this momentous endeavor, it leaves behind a legacy of healing, hope, and resilience for the people of Lakshadweep.
