India Defeats Argentina in Penalty Shootout at Four-Nations Junior Women’s Hockey Tournament
India secured a thrilling victory over host nation Argentina in the Four Nations junior women’s hockey tournament, winning 2-0 in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Captain and goalkeeper Nidhi was the star of the match, pulling off four consecutive saves during the shootout to deny Argentina and lead India to victory. Kanika scored India’s lone goal in regular play, netting in the 44th minute to equalize after Argentina’s early lead.
Argentina’s Milagros Del Valle had opened the scoring in the 10th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage. However, India fought back strongly in the third quarter, with Kanika’s goal leveling the match.
In the shootout, Indian players Lalrinpuii and Lalthantluangi successfully converted their attempts, helping seal the win in their third match of the tournament.
The victory boosts India’s confidence as they continue to compete in the highly competitive international junior women’s hockey event.
