India Seeks UN Sanctions on TRF

India Pushes for UN Sanctions on TRF Over Pahalgam Terror Attack

India is intensifying efforts to have The Resistance Front (TRF), a front for the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), officially listed as a global terror organization by the United Nations. This comes in the wake of TRF’s alleged involvement in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

An Indian technical team is currently in New York, engaging with the Monitoring Team of the UN 1267 Sanctions Committee and other partner countries at the United Nations. According to official sources, the team will also hold discussions with key UN bodies, including the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), as part of a broader diplomatic push to strengthen global counter-terrorism efforts.

The Pahalgam attack, which took place in 2025, was a high-profile act of terror, and India has pointed to TRF’s involvement as part of its ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist networks operating in the region. By seeking to designate TRF as a UN-listed terror outfit, India aims to further isolate the group and pressure Pakistan to take stronger action against cross-border terrorism.

TRF has been operating as a proxy for LeT, which has been responsible for numerous attacks in India over the years. India’s diplomatic and technical efforts at the United Nations are expected to bring more international attention to the issue, with hopes that the move will lead to stronger sanctions and greater cooperation among global powers to combat terrorism.
