India Advances Renewable Energy with 151 GW Underway
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced that approximately 151 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects are currently under various stages of implementation across India.
Addressing the ‘Mercom India Renewables Summit 2024’ on Friday, Joshi highlighted that the government is focused on prioritizing renewable energy. He projected that around 76.42 GW of this capacity will become operational within the next 3-4 years.
“The government is committed to advancing renewable energy and has several initiatives in place to support this transition. Nearly 151 GW of renewable projects are underway, with a significant portion expected to come online in the near future,” Joshi stated.
These ambitious plans are part of India’s broader strategy to enhance its renewable energy infrastructure and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to global climate goals and sustainable development. The ongoing projects reflect the country’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and addressing environmental challenges.
