Director Imtiaz Ali has emphasized the importance of focusing on storytelling rather than approaching filmmaking as projects based on “mathematical equations.” Speaking after the release of his latest film “Amar Singh Chamkila” on Netflix, Ali expressed his belief that the essence of cinema lies in captivating storytelling that resonates with audiences beyond mere calculations.

Ali critiqued the industry’s tendency to rely on formulas and algorithms to predict success, noting that the unpredictable “X factor” that draws audiences cannot be quantified by numbers alone.

“There’s a certain way we approach projects with these mathematical equations, expecting guaranteed returns. However, this approach often proves inaccurate,” Ali remarked, advocating for a more organic and narrative-driven approach to filmmaking.
