Historic Medal Haul for Reliance Foundation

Reliance Foundation Athletes Shine at Asian Athletics Championships 2025 with Record-Breaking Performance

Indian athletes supported by the Reliance Foundation delivered a stunning performance at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, Republic of Korea, securing a remarkable five-medal haul — their best-ever showing at the prestigious continental event. The medal tally included three golds, one silver, and one bronze, significantly contributing to India’s all-time best finish of 24 medals and second place overall.

At the heart of the triumph was long-distance star Gulveer Singh, who etched his name in history by clinching double gold in the 5000m and 10000m events. He set a new championship record in the 5000m with a blistering time of 13:24.77s, becoming the first Indian since 2017 to win both long-distance events in the same edition.

Reliance Foundation’s Athletics Director, James Hillier, hailed the athletes’ achievements, stating,
“We had 10 of our athletes participating and Gulveer really stole the show with his double gold. Jyothi also did amazingly well in the hurdles under extremely difficult conditions, keeping her composure to defend her title.”

India’s leading hurdler Jyothi Yarraji rose to the occasion once again, defending her 100m hurdles title with a season-best time of 12.96s, setting a new championship record despite challenging weather conditions.

In the women’s long jump, Ancy Sojan demonstrated experience and consistency to secure the silver medal, while Animesh Kujur, representing the Odisha Reliance Foundation High Performance Centre, won bronze in the men’s 200m sprint and broke the national record for the third time this year.

Reflecting on his debut international podium finish, Animesh said,
“I’m really proud of winning the bronze medal in my first major international championship. I stayed mentally strong and confident, and breaking the national record again makes this even more special. This is just the beginning.”

James Hillier also emphasized the significance of medals won across disciplines and training centers:
“It’s heartening to see us win medals across all our centres — Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Odisha — in sprint, hurdles, jumps, and long-distance events.”

This performance highlights the Reliance Foundation’s growing impact on Indian athletics. With two championship records and one national record added to their tally, the Foundation’s athletes have not only made headlines but also reinforced the organization’s long-term commitment to nurturing Olympic-caliber talent through top-tier infrastructure, coaching, and support.

The stellar showing in Gumi marks a new high in the Reliance Foundation’s journey of empowering Indian athletes to achieve global excellence.
