GIFT City Launches International Fintech Institute in Partnership with Ahmedabad University, IIT Gandhinagar, and UC San Diego

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India: In a significant step towards positioning India as a global leader in fintech, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) has partnered with Ahmedabad University, IIT Gandhinagar, and UC San Diego to launch the GIFT International Fintech Institute (GIFT IFI). The institute, set to begin operations in January 2025, will provide advanced training and research in fintech, catering to India’s rapidly growing financial technology sector.

The partnership aims to address the increasing demand for skilled professionals capable of meeting the challenges in capital markets, climate adaptation funding, and providing financial services to underserved communities. GIFT IFI will deliver industry-aligned educational programs such as Fintech Foundations, Cyber Security, AI/ML for Fintech, and Finance for Fintech, designed for a wide range of learners, from recent graduates to mid-career professionals. These programs will enable participants to accumulate credentials that can lead to diplomas or degrees, fostering continuous upskilling in the ever-evolving fintech industry.

Professor Pankaj Chandra, Vice Chancellor of Ahmedabad University, highlighted the consortium’s strengths, noting the combination of finance, computer science, and statistics expertise, which will be applied to real-world problems and close collaboration with the fintech industry.

Professor Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, emphasized the transformative potential of the institute, describing it as an opportunity to develop critical thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, and talent to fuel India’s economic landscape. UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K Khosla expressed excitement about contributing to India’s fintech evolution, reinforcing the global collaboration to drive innovation and economic progress.

As India’s financial services sector transitions to technology-driven roles, GIFT IFI’s programs aim to bridge the skills gap, providing professionals with both financial expertise and technology skills. With strong academic backing from Ahmedabad University, IIT Gandhinagar, and UC San Diego, GIFT IFI is poised to play a central role in shaping the future of fintech in India and beyond.
