FSSAI Mandates Quarterly Reporting of Expired, Rejected Food Products
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a directive requiring licensed food manufacturers, importers, repackers, and relabellers to submit quarterly reports on expired and rejected food products through its online compliance system, FOSCOS.
This move aims to prevent the resale of such items for human consumption and ensure better tracking and disposal of food products that do not meet quality standards. The new reporting system will include details on the quantity of products failing internal quality checks, volumes of expired or returned goods from the food supply chain, and information on product disposal, such as destruction, auction, or alternative uses, with details of buyers and waste disposal agencies.
