Four States Sign MoUs to Boost Digital Credit Access for Farmers

In a significant step towards digitising agricultural finance, Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, and Odisha on Friday signed agreements to provide seamless digital access to credit services for farmers. The initiative aims to streamline credit disbursement by linking services to state-level farmer registries.

The Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the four states and the PSB Alliance, in partnership with the National Farmers’ Welfare Program Implementation Society, during a national conference on Agri Stack held in the capital.

According to an official statement, the collaboration will enable digital authentication through farmer registries, making credit access quicker, more transparent, and paperless. The system is expected to particularly benefit small and marginal farmers, who often struggle with complex documentation and delayed disbursals.

Officials said this integration will also help financial institutions in verifying farmers’ credentials digitally, cutting down on processing time and improving outreach in rural areas.

The Agri Stack conference brought together policymakers, banking institutions, and agriculture sector stakeholders to discuss the use of technology for inclusive and efficient service delivery in Indian agriculture.

This move aligns with the government’s larger push toward digital agriculture and financial inclusion, aiming to empower farmers with better tools, timely credit, and greater transparency in welfare delivery.
